BEVERLY ET LES CHANSONNETTES

Beverly's exploration of french repertoire began a few years ago with the discovery of lyrics en français for some of the standards from the Great American Songbook, including George Gershwin's "Embraceable You". Along the way she added songs by Charles Trenet ("Que reste-t-il de nos amours"/"I Wish You Love" and "Beyond the Sea"/"La Mer") and some French chestnuts like "La Vie En Rose" and "J'ai Deux Amours". The Barrie Jazz and Blues Festival featured a one hour concert of this material on the mainstage for their 2008 festival. In the fall of 2009, The Alliance Français de Toronto (AFT) Artistic Director Dominique Denis worked with Beverly and pianist Tom Howell to add songs by Serge Gainsbourg, Claude Nougaro, Georges Brassens and several others to create a 90 minute cabaret called "Parlez-Vous Jazz?". AFT opened their 2009 season with the sold-out show, and the reviewer from Le Métropolitain described Beverly's performance as "époustouflante" (breathtaking). In April 2010, Beverly et les Chansonnettes were the featured musicians at a Simcoe Hospice fundraiser at CasinoRama called "Une Nuit a Paris", and in June 2010, Beverly brought Les Chansonnettes to the Toronto Jazz Festival, with piano/accordion, guitar, bass and trumpet. You'll find video of that performance here: http://www.beverlytaft.com/projects_chansonnettes_video.html.

Whether for cabaret, festival or gala event, this music swings, flirts, laments and romances through many phases of love, life and song.
