BEVERLY TAFT & THE BOSSA NOVA PROJECT

In the spring of 2005, Beverly premiered this tribute to Brazilian composer and icon Antonio Carlos Jobim (in Portuguese and English), at the Distillery Jazz Festival. The concert features familiar and lesser-known numbers by Jobim and his contemporaries from the classic bossa nova era of the 1950s and '60s. The melodies, harmonies, rhythms and lyrics of the music are gorgeous and seem ideal for outdoor summer festivals, but the show is also suitable for clubs and soft seat theatres.

Following its debut in 2005, "Beverly Taft and the Bossa Nova Project" was featured on the Mainstage of the Peterborough Jazz Festival in September 2006, opening for headliners Joe Sealy and the Blay Ambollay Sextet. Beverly has also performed this show at the Royal Botanical Gardens, the Warkworth Lilac Festival, at Roncy Rocks, and at the Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival, at Dominion on Queen, in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. Beverly also performs a trio version of the Bossa Nova Project (voice, piano and horn) at Lula Lounge a couple of times a year. She travelled to Brasil in Spring and Summer 2015, and was lucky enough to perform with two different groups there, in Sao Paulo. Her Brazilian repertoire is always growing and includes compositions by Luiz Bonfa, Carlos Lyra, Marcus Valle, Joao Gilberto, and Roberto Menescal.
